I’m not sure that 10pm is the best time to start a blog post, but it’s the summer, so I’m going to do what I want. Today I finished The Thoughtful Dresser by Linda Grant. I am fairly interested in clothes, and I dress well, but I don’t find myself particularly stylish. I am not a thoughtful dresser. I do not take time picking out my clothes, instead I just hastily pick out an outfit and throw it on before I miss my bus. The book does not give out advice, but I do feel like I learned a few things. She claims that women (and men!) should buy what they are yearning, no matter the price tag. I mean, really, really wanting. Not, “Oh my god this is so cute! I have to buy it!” but going to the store day after day and dreaming about owning that dress (or scarf or bag or jacket..). This year I have started earning my own money, and when I am picking out clothes and other things now, I am much more careful about what I buy. Going into the job, I thought I was going to spend it all, and in the beginning, I did. But not anymore. I am saving up for something. I think I am going to buy a pair of boots from Madewell. Either these or these. I think I want the taller ones, but I am not sure. Would my feet get too hot? Too smelly? This is such a first world problem that I am considering deleting this and not publishing it, but I live in the first world so I suppose it would be worse if I complained about a bad dinner at some fancy restaurant or how I couldn’t afford a $5,000 Hermès bag. (Note: I plan on never complaining about either. I may enjoy expensive things sometimes.. and I may be a bit pretentious at times.. but I am not an ass.) Meh. I don’t think I will buy either pair of boots. Screw the advice from that book.. $300 is too much for a pair of boots!! Skinny jeans will probably be out soon since everyone likes the maxi skirts and wide-legged trouser jeans now. And once the skinny jeans are gone, then why even bother buying a pair of boots that aren’t for trudging through the Northeastern snow? Ohhhh wait.. I always manage to find a pair that I want. Ah. I have wanted these since last fall when I saw them at DSW. They are much cheaper than the other ones.. and I think I like them just as much. Well.. screw The Thoughtful Shopper. I am going to buy some beautiful boots that are marked down $80, and it’s going to be great. I hope.

The night time is not the best time for me to think, and it’s definitely not the best time for me to make a purchase.
